Vascular dementia is a form of dementia which occurs due to the blood vessels deep within the brain becoming narrower, restricting the blood flow to the brain. This can happen through a stroke or transient ischaemic attacks – more commonly known as TIA or mini strokes.
Regrettably, it is estimated to affect around 150,000 adults in the UK, being more prominent in older adults. After the age of 65, the likelihood of dementia developing doubles every 5 years. Whereas the parent group of Dementia is estimated to affect roughly 850,000 UK adults.
